SPOILER: Top 4 show with Anne Murray
« on: August 25, 2008, 04:28:19 PM »

The top 4 tonight performed under the guidance of Anne Murray, a legendary songstress who is one of the most inspiring of our nation and knows what it takes to be a good singer and performer.

Starting off with Mitch McDonald, for his first performance I thought he heeded the breathing advice very well, and did his good performance well (even though he’s not one of my favorites). His second performance put me to sleep, I thought he stepped things waaaaaaaaaay down and he proved himself to be a going home candidate tomorrow night.

Earl did very well in his first performance, he enjoys what he does and because he has fun onstage the audience has fun too, and he made very good eye contact with the audience in both his performances (even though in the second one I only got half of what he’s able to do, but his second performance was very good, like his first).

Drew really messed things up when he sang “Hippo in my tub”, given it’s a children’s song, he took it too seriously and sang it like it was a love song, with a children’s song he should have appeared a bit joyful and smiled more in his performance, so to entertain the kids, not scare them. His second performance was less than ok, he could very well be going home.

Theo Tams…the Canadian Idol, future platinum-selling artist, world tourer, musician and singer par excellence…a force to be reckoned with on CD, radio, live and on TV.

My top 2: Theo and Earl.

Ditch Mitch or screw Drew.

Tomorrow night Anne Murray will grace the stage, as well as American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. A nice treat for the results show.

Nice review as usual Sharon. Here's my take on the show.

Anne Murray Nite - Top 4 - August 25, 2008

01. Mitch MacDonald sang "Cotton Jenny"(Ann Murray)
Jake said it was flat at the top
Sass said great job
Farley said you look comfortable but you need a little more edge.
Zack said You're in the Top 4 and I don't want to hear,
Mitch MacDonald the Cape Breton side- steppers.
While he did sing the song okay, I am just not a Mitch Fan. Go Home.

02. Earl Stevenson sang "Killing Me Softly"(Ann Murray)
Sass said a really good job.
Farley said wicked
Zack said That showed no emotion
and it was like you were meandering around in your back yard.
Jake said you sang good and the performance was great.
I for one Loved it. Grin

03. Drew Wright sang "Hey Daddy(there's a hippo in my tub)"(Ann Murray)
Farley said, vocally that was your best performance yet.
Zack said you did really good brother
Jake said That was the best singing you've ever done on this show
Sass said has anyone ever told you you're a really good singer.
I think it was a bit better than usual, but not great.

04.Theo Tams sang "You Don't Know Me"(Ann Murray)
Zack said that was radically flavourless
Jake said you put your heart & soul into that song.
Sass said your phrasing is outstanding.
Farley said good job man
He did a good job of that song.

05. Mitch MacDonald sang "Between the Bars" (Elliot Smith)
Jake said work on finding that note and be more dynamic.
Sass said that was a beautiful thing to watch.
Farley said  you need more angst
Zack said That just showed you have no clue on how to win Canadian Idol.
I just don't like this guys singing.

06. Earl sang "The Joker" (Steve Miller)
Sass said that was the best, nice
Farley said You should have been a little more Earl.
Zack said that was a bit like a throw away, which you aren't
Jake said that made me feel like you didn't want to be here.
Well I loved it. Grin

07. Drew Wright sang "Gravity" (John Mayer)
Farley said you did a good job vocally.
Zack said you can change the world with on song, but not with that brother.
Jake said at one point that sounded like Jim Cuddy and that's a really good thing.
Sass said you pulled it off, good job
I find him boring.

08. Theo Tams sang "Chariot" (Gavin DeGraw)
Zack said that was of the two best things, The performance of the night.
Jake said you laid it down tonight.
Sass said Good job my brother
Farley said a really good performance.
I think he did good as well.

My Top Two: Earl Stevenson and Theo Tams
My Bottom Two: Mitch MacDonalds and Drew Wright.
My Guess at Who Is Going Home: Mitch MacDonald

Ann Murray will be performing and  Jordon Sparks as well. That should be enjoyable.

I was really underwhelmed by the show tonight.

I thought that Mitch and Drew actually did really well with their Anne Murray songs.  Earl, I did not like at all tonight.  During his first song, I kept hearing the Fugees in my mind and wanted to hear that on my TV too.

I thought Theo did fine with the Anne Murray song, but didn't wow me.  His final performance was the best of the night, but not my favourite Theo performance at all.

Mitch - Time for him to go home, he's not taking it seriously! I also didn't care for the second song

Earl - I didn't care for the first song and I agree with what Michelle said, I was hearing the Fugee's in my head, second performance was alright.

Drew - WTF was that? Shocked I had that children's tape when I was younger and as such he should sing it that way, second song was good.

Theo - I was a bit underwhelmed with the first song but he did a very good job with the second one.

Bottom Two - Mitch and Drew or Earl

Going Home - Mitch

Well, I guess that I'm the odd one out here. I loved Drew's 'Hippo in My Tub'. I've never heard that song before and I was listening very intensely. I thought it 'tied' as the best song of the night with Theo's 'Chariot'.
I have my fingers crossed for Drew and Theo to make the Top 3, as for Mitch and Earl....I don't care.

Lynn, I also loved Hippo in the Tub.  I've never heard the children's version of it, but I don't understand how everyone else doesn't like it.  I thought Drew turned it into a fun, pop-y song.
