SPOILER: CI Beatles week Top 5 Result Show - August 19, 2008

My Top Two or Three: Earl Stevenson, Theo Tams and Drew Wright.
My bottom Two or Three: Mitch MacDonald, Mookie Morris, Drew Wright
My Guess at Going Home: Mitch MacDonald PLEASE!!

The show starts as usual with Ben asking the judges opinions.
The Idols do a Beatles tribute. It starts out with Mitch doing Blackbird,
then Drew doing Eleanor Rigby, Then Mookie doing Get back,
Earl doing Revolution, and finally Theo doing Let It Be
and then the other Idols joining in.

Theo and Mitch are safe (WTF Mitch safe again!)

Earl is safe

The bottom two: Drew Wright and Mookie Morris

The Top Four: Theo, Mitch, Earl and Drew

Going Home: Mookie Morris

One consolation, Jake told Mookie to phone him,
so he may have a contract waiting for him.

Next Week: Anne Murray and the Idols get to pick one song of their own.

Yeah, I don't get Mitch being safe AGAIN.  Where is he from?  Really, I could see if he sounded good and I just didn't like his style, but the guy just can't sing.

Glad that Theo is safe.  While I don't find Drew particularly exciting, he is probably the one whose singing I like best of the remaining ones, outside of Theo.

But who planned these themes?  Top four guys and they're singing Anne Murray songs???  WTF?Huh

After tonight's result show I can say that I'm fine with Mitch being safe again, and like you say Michelle because he can't sing maybe he's the best suited candidate to make a watery pop album off a 19-management contract, while Theo, Earl, Mookie and Drew could actually get started on real music careers because of their immense talent (of course Jake already told Mookie "Call me", but that doesn't necessarily mean anything). Even though I've said a million times myself that Theo is this year's Canadian Idol hands down, Theo's proven himself as a professional already, in my ears.

I think picking Anne Murray was a strategic move to probably get someone from the Maritimes to win (Mitch being from Nova Scotia, regional voting has kept him in the game), and Anne Murray is herself a native of Nova Scotia...call me crazy but I'm just taking a wild guess, because I have an awkward feeling that Maritimers will not only keep Mitch in the game because he's from Nova Scotia, but also with respect to the fact that next week he'll be singing a song from an internationally-recognized artist who comes from there as well (and who can sing a million times better than him).

Huh What I don't get is why can the states vote on canadian Idol when we can not vote on American Idol Huh That being said they should block all calls from the states to the Canadian Idol show and maybe we'd get an honest vote.

THRILLED to see Mookie gone...the guy is so peculiar-and he even talks goofy because he is so used to pretending to sing a certain way that his mouth does the same thing. At least he didn't take it hard-he seemed pretty happy about it! I was scared that he was going to go far...and I wouldn't get too excited to be calling Jake-he hasn't really done much with the Idols...I am scared about the Anne Murray theme...I think Theo will pretty much ace it because he can sing any song...but Mitch, yeah he NEEDS to be gone as of yesterday!!!

I liked Mookie but whatever!

Canadians can't vote for the American Idols and the Americans can't vote for Canadian Idols-I think this whole VFTW thing is stupid to be honest.

Yeah, I didn't know that Americans were voting for Canadians.  I gave up voting for this show years ago because the system is ridiculous.  Whether it's Vote for the Worst, teenagers with nothing but time on their hands, or certain geographic regions voting for a contestant because of where he lives, the show is more concerned with having huge numbers than an actual representation of what people think.

That's part of the reason why the Idols don't automatically all have hit records.  (Well, other than the crap songs that they are forced to sing.)  Someone who votes 1000 times is not going to buy 1000 CDs.

The whole thing is set up for the TV show.  It just happens that the topic of this particular show is music.  Sure, there is the exposure, but as we've seen with past contestants (Billy for example) it doesn't help build a career if you end up with small pockets of fans throughout the country.  You need a big enough group in any one location to make touring there financially viable.

I watch the show now purely for the show.  If there is a contestant I like I MIGHT (emphasis on might) go to a concert if he/she comes to town, but I would hesitate for a few reasons.  One, they are likely coming with a bunch of other Idols to each sing a few songs.  And two, if they "suddenly" come out with a CD, chances are it will be full of the crap formula stuff that the Idol writers come up with.  If I heard that someone I really liked was going to be performing material they had written over the past xxx months or years, I would be more excited to go.

LOL, okay, what does that have to do with this particular results show???

Smiley Okay I thought or was under the impression the VFTW was from the states and that they were voting for Mitch or Sanjaya or whomever, it was pointed out to me that No the Americans do not vote on Canadian Idol, so for that I apologize.  I will NOT apologize to the group of people (I'm being nice here) that do vote for the worst. I think they are a bunch of jerks who like to wreck the show because they are mean and selfish. The kids who work their butts off to get to the top five should be given the Equal chance to win without a bunch of jerk wrecking it for them.

I definitely agree...I have only ever bought ONE cd of any artist I like..I may be tempted to vote for Theo if it comes down to him and another guy, I may vote for the heck of it-is he from the East? If so then I don't need to worry! lol

I, too, watch the show for pure entertainment value...ever since Billy got booted out of 3rd place unfairly I knew it was purely a regional thing-or it depended on whomever people in the East voted for! lol I do honestly think that if theo was on AI, he would be JUST as huge as Kelly and Carrie though....I always feel bad that the real talent gets stuck in Canada.

That's what I've always said myself, the idols should have the opportunity to sing their own material (would have been good since a good part of this year's contestants are songwriters), not only choose from a song repertoire that contains songs that have been written, sang, recorded and charted by artists before them. And to score a deal to record a new CD, there has to be original material on the demo, because if the demo CD has covers on it, it's not going to work (no idol tv show will change that either). Original material is part of being unique, aside from being told week after week to show emotional connection, to step it up, and all that other yadda yadda yadda to be a good singer/performer.

You know, it would be a totally different show, but I would love to see X numbers of musicians playing an original song each week.  But instead of eliminating them, they could count votes each week and keep a running tally until the end.  That way if a certain performer did a song you didn't like, you could see if they had other material you liked better and people wouldn't be judged on one song along.

How do we pitch this idea to CTV?  LOL
