Wow! Did we ever have some crazy weather last evening. Around 6 the sky started getting dark, and within 15 minutes it was inky, so we started driving home. By the time we got one block over the rain had started and a tree got struck by lightening, part of a branch flew off of it and hit our windshield. Then we pull in our driveway and run in the house. About 5 or 10 minutes later the storm had blown through, and we went outside. There were sirens everywhere, and a firetruck comes down our street, and turns one corner before I us. I ran down, and saw that it had stopped by a tree fallen over teh road. There were power lines down, trees uprooted, a tree on a car, and a car on it's roof. This was a scary storm. None of our pictures turned out though. There was a setting messed up on the camera. And then I went for a walk in the conservation area by my place and saw lightening scorch marks on a tree 50 feet from my house. http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv.ca/abc/home/contentposting.aspx?isfa=1&feedname=CTV-TOPSTORIES_V3&showbyline=True&newsitemid=CTVNews%2f20080608%2ftornado_follow_080609Meanwhile, some residents in the Dresden area will be cleaning up Monday after reports emerged of roofs being torn off buildings and trees being uprooted.
Across the region, people had to also deal with flying debris and downed power lines. On the radio they said that Environment Canada is investigating if a Tornado hit Dresden as well. It sure looked like it.

I was prepared for the worst as warnings we're up for our area but we were lucky and were spared. Just a brief period with high winds/lightning and an extremely small amount of rain. Pretty scary stuff for anyone experiencing extreme weather. I hope that branch didn't do much or any damage to your car windshield, Trenna? It sounds you really had it hit hard. I'm glad that you're all okay. And more warnings are up for tonight as temps were on the high side again today. Humid weather = Nasty storms.

That is absolutely why I hate spring/summer weather conditions that involve flash flooding and freak lightening...and tornados...thankfully by some higher power, the weather miraculously stopped dumping rain on us the day after my dad passed away-and it has been really pleasant and pretty much dry....the last thing we needed to worry about was being afraid of lightening bolts hitting us as we were trying to deal with our own grief!
Glad you guys were ok down there...

The summer has only just begun and I'm sure many more storms will hit us. Some areas have already been hit hard. Scary....

I absolutely HATE storms in the winter AND in the summer...so far we have had it pretty good over here-today it was close to 28 degrees and breezy-SO nice...tomorrow will hit 30..that is a bit too hot to be honest but we will take it-if you can imagine, the fall is just a few months away and it feels like we just GOT summer last week...oh yeah...we did!!!
