Storms in Ontario
« on: June 08, 2007, 03:31:59 PM »

We had a wicked storm pass through Ontario this afternoon. The temperature was 38C. (with the humidity) and a cold front passed through and we all know what happens then.
There were tornado warnings and sightings out for different parts of the province. I was upstairs and my son came and got me to tell me the sky was a weird shade of brown. I came downstairs and went outside. The sky was scary looking, but not as scary as when the wind started to blow. It was like a 'dust bowl.' All you could see in the air was dust and it was blowing in your eyes. The patio set blew over on top of the barbecue and the umbrella broke. It was old anyways. The hydro never went out which was strange for us because we always have our hydro go out when there's a storm.
I was worried about my other son who was up in London with a friend. He is home now and safe. He said that it was really bad there. They were on the road when the storm hit. There were trees and hydro lines down because of the storm. It was so windy, I felt like I was in Oz. I HATE the wind. After the winds died down, I went out to stand in the rain. It felt so cooling after the heat!

Anyways...we've managed to weather the storm and the positive thing is that the weekend will be cooler and more comfortable! Smiley

Lynn, aren't you supposed to go and hide in the basement when the sky gets weird and there are tornado warnings?!?  Not go out into the yard!  LOL.

Glad to hear that everything is okay though - other than the umbrella.

Well, we had a storm too. It wasn't too bad, the wind gusted a bit but other than that. There was a little lightning, and I didn't see any funnel clouds. The hydro flickered, but never went out. There are probably some downed branches but that's it.

I'm glad the storm wasn't severe in Dresden, Trenna. It was bad here. If the radio station puts up some pics of the storm, I'll post here.

Your comment was funny, Michelle! lol!
Yes, we really shouldn't have been out in the storm. But, that was more my son's fault than mine. I mentioned to him about the umbrella and so he rushes out into the yard (at the worst part of the storm - no doubt Roll Eyes) and tries to put the umbrella down. I went out to help him and was screaming for him to get the heck in the house and forget about the umbrella. There's a tree in the back yard and I was fearful it was going to fall. Of course, the kid has no fear! Roll Eyes His girlfriend texted him on his cellphone and told him to head for the basement and keep his head down low. And, all he did was laugh. Arggg! Tennagers!!  Smiley Well I'm glad that no one was hurt in the storm, Lynn. I think it's more of a "Man" thing than teenagers.  Wink

Yeah, if the girlfriend can't convince him to come in out of the storm, the mom has NO chance! Cheesy

Yikes I just hate storms...I try and hide in the basement when it rains heavy-if there was a tornado warning I think I would end up digging a hole in the ground like Saddam Hussein did! haha

I am glad to hear that nobody was hurt down there, Lynn-do you guys get storms often?? We don't seem to get many here but when they DO happen, look out cause the heavens open up and the clouds just pee out rain!!

We get a lot of storms in the summer when it's really humid and smoggy. The only thing that clears the air is a good rainfall, except some of those storms can be pretty darn fierce. Roll Eyes

At least we don't have cars buried underwater and floating down roads of rivers. I've seen pics but it's never the same as actually experiencing it firsthand.

Yeah but floating cars are VERY rare down here and because some of our drivers are dumb enough to think their cars can drive themselves through 4 feet of water.

Oh yeah I got it back the following day-my car's battery died at the same time of the storm but had nothing to do with it!

Apparently tonight there is supposed to be heavy rainfall and a warning is out-I am just so glad I don't have to be out tonight whenever it decides to hit!

I agree some people did some dumb things, but others really didn't have much choice.  The water hit so quick, that places flooded before you could get out or traffic was in the way so that you had no option but to try driving through the puddle.

People actually had to drive the wrong way up certain roads to get out of things.  That's what happens when you get one month's worth of rain in one hour instead.

Well the weather HERE was nuts today-we were in the West and saw HUGE ass clouds forming-got to my studio and then it just started to dump rain with hard lightning which was SO scary-apparently it hit 2 houses in the same area that my bro and his girl are living now...how scary...then it was sunny-then a few hours later it got really dark again and poured MORE rain for a good 20 mins, then it was sunny-after one more round, it finally stopped and was clear all night. It was definitely a weird day with the 3 big thunderstorms coming in at once-apparently it wreaked havoc around the city YET AGAIN!!!

We had some rain today. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But, not enough. At least we didn't have any storms. There was a little lightning and shortly thereafter, our hydro flickered. Then was out for 2 hours.  Roll Eyes

Tomorrow is supposed to feel cooler. It sure doesn't feel that way now. Maybe a little cooler outside, but inside is a greenhouse.

And Tuscany was where lightning struck and burned down a house a few weeks ago when you were stranded, Lisa.  Definitely the northwest is BAD when it comes to weather!!  One of the many reasons I would never live there.
