Black Bean Sauce Stirfry
« on: November 25, 2005, 01:21:13 AM »

I tried an AWESOME combination tonight...I don't really have a recipe for it since I used different products from Superstore..but it turned out quite good so I thought I would share it with you.

I picked up some fresh chow mein noodles from Superstore..they are kind of thin and broad. Then I picked up a can called BUDDHA'S DELIGHT-which has tofu, wood ear mushrooms, baby corn and bamboo shoots in it. I also picked up some bean sprouts, shrimp (because the chicken was SO expensive) and regular mushrooms.

The KICKER though was this black bean sauce that comes fresh in a small pouch by KIM CHI I think...it is for stir frying-and tastes EXACTLY like the kind you get in your Chinese Dishes...AMAZING! So this is what I did:

Pan roasted the noodles in some Ginger oil...I had to use a lot to make sure that the noodles would get slightly crispy.

I put these aside and then came up with the stirfry.

I combined the can of BUDDHA'S DELIGHT with the oil and regular chopped mushrooms. (Next time I will add Shitake as well). I threw in the sprouts and made a nice fry. Before that, I had sauteed the slightly seasoned shrimp in ginger oil. Then I mixed it with the stirfry.

The last step was to add the black bean sauce mix to my stirfry and then the noodles.

Sadly, I had too much noodles, threw in WAY too much cornstarch (NEVER USE THIS FOR COOKING STIRFRY!!), and not enough sauce. So what I wrote above is my modification...

AND OH MY GAWD-did the house EVER smell so darn good...sooooooo tasty...and you can substitute chicken if you like, or go all veggie (oops, I just realized that I forgot to add my veggie mix to the recipe..!!!!)....you just really need to find the black bean sauce in the pouch because THAT is what made the dish SO good. You can get it in the Chinese section of Superstore..it is FABULOUS!!!

This sounds yummy Lisa  Smiley, I love stir frys and I hope to try this one soon. I hope I can find all the ingredients because I don't have Superstore here, but it's sure worth the try.

It only tastes good with the sauce-so that is the key ingredient.
